This week we welcomed all of our students back to school. It was wonderful to see everyone again and hear about their holiday adventures!
We have kicked off 2019 by: -finishing our personal narratives -beginning a study of democracy -beginning an exploration of geometry through circles -starting new novels during guided reading -fractions in Renée's math group Beginning Monday all students will be asked to hand their cell phones into their teachers at the beginning of each day. They will be safely locked up and returned to students at the end of each day. Please watch for communication from our administration team regarding this new policy. From January 21-24 the grade six students only will be going to police school where they will be learning all about investigation. Permission forms will be sent home next week. The grade five students will be provided with learning opportunities at the school provided by Ms. Courtney and Ms. Leanna.

It has been a busy time of year for us in grade 5/6! We spent much of November practicing for the Winter Solstice play. We hope you enjoyed it! We sure had fun performing for you!
This week we have Santa coming to visit us on Wednesday. Wednesday and Thursday are PJ days! We love those! We are wrapping up our Friday clubs. Check out the photo below of Amare and Daneesha's bracelets they made in beading club! Wishing you all a restful and joyous holiday break! Hello All!
In the last few weeks at PFS we have been focusing on how to demonstrate our school values. To help encourage students to continually exercise these values all of the teachers and staff have blue values cards to hand out to students that we see demonstrating these values. Many students in our wonderful class have already received some, and we encourage the whole class to keep up the good work! During our remembrance day assembly Layla was awarded a feather for continually demonstrating our school values especially for Kakyosin and Kimmapiiypitsinni. Congrats Layla and all of the feather winners! :) Next week we will start to prepare for our Winter Solstice celebration. All of the 5/6 classes have been asked to transform a book by Jason EagleSpeaker into a play to perform for the school. Every student will play a role in the production and we cannot wait for everyone to see our hard work on December 12th! In writing, the students have been learning about how to dress up their writing by using different stylistic techniques. Ask your child how they use quality adjectives, and strong verbs in their sentences. In science, we continue with our trees and forests unit. We just learned about photosynthesis this week and will soon be starting our research projects. Miss Renee and Miss Ty Hello All!
